Before you start warming up, you’d want to do some deep breathing to hit the higher notes more easily. You can practice this by relaxing your abdomen as you breathe in and engaging it as you breathe out. Repeat this several times while keeping your ribcage open to strengthen your diaphragm.

Have A Proper Warm-Up Routine


Much like any other skill or sport, always warming up before you start singing can make a world of difference in your performance. Not only does it make sure you’re able to hit the right notes with ease, but it also protects your vocal cords from damage.   • Saying tongue twisters can also help you relax your tongue. The classic tongue twisters “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers” or “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” are great for warming up.
  • Stretch out your entire body. Since singing can be a physically demanding activity, you should never forget to relax and massage your muscles. The more comfortable you are while singing, the better your performance will be. 

Record Yourself While Singing

This particular tip might be a bit embarrassing for you to try out if you’re too shy to listen to yourself sing, but it’s a great way to evaluate your abilities. You don't require any fancy equipment either,  a phone or similar portable recording device will do.  You can start off by recording yourself singing a familiar song. When you do this, oftentimes, you’ll note that your voice ends up sounding very different from your expectations. 

But don’t let this drag you down! By analysing whether you were on key throughout the song along with areas where your voice was powerful and where it was weak, you can practice the song again with more insight. Even a couple of recordings can result in a great deal of improvement. Once you’ve got the hang of a few familiar songs, try recording some more challenging ones that are outside your comfort zone. 

Maintain Vocal Health

Taking care of your voice is also an important factor to pay attention to if you want to improve your singing voice. Avoid excessive screaming, shouting, and clearing your throat, as all of these habits, can damage your vocal cords. If you’re a smoker, you’d also want to start cutting down on those smoke breaks. Also give your voice extended periods of rest and hydrate yourself properly throughout the day.
